i'm happy to come across a couple of blogs by mothers of large families and glean some wisdom in childrearing. it gives me a new perspective because they're real life experiences that i can identify with as compared to the baby books i've come across that has a lot of "should be's" that make me frustrated when clarisse didn't fall into those should be categories and left me wondering what went wrong (was it me? or was it her? or is it perfectly normal??).
one entry talked about picky eaters. she had 7 children (yes, it's no typo, it's 7) and 1 child is a picky eater. on the whole it says to make the meal enjoyable to children. i know. i was once a very picky eater too (ask my mom) and childhood mealtimes are agonising for me. so i try hard not to get too stressed with clarisse and terrorise her. she'll take anything as long as it's not milk in a bottle. when she's extremely tired i know better than to give her a bottle. i try to feed her with milk first before her solids. oh and there are some days i just have to resort to something unconventional ... like yesterday ... greg offered her a mango vanilla ice cream (mommy not happy she's having that) which she happily sucked and when i switched it to milk she screamed in protest. so to make her drink her milk i alternated the ice cream and milk until she finished her bottle. well ... some things you got to do ...
