a case of chicken pox

my daughter contracted chicken pox (the whys, hows, & whens is another story) and i went through an emotional rollercoaster as i watched the ugly red spots multiply on her once flawless innocent face. her pitiful cries at night broke my heart. there was anger, guilt, making a list of people to blame, and then finally peace.

as i washed her spotted little body with a wet towelcloth in front of her video, i find myself grateful that she is holding up quite well and thankful that I could tend to her with undivided care. she sat silently as i bathed her, changed her nappy, applied calamine lotion and put on a new set of pajamas on her. she looked at her mitted hands curiously and tried playing with them. her disposition impresses me. i doubt her sores and scabs are less itchy than others, and her sores are not really just a handful little spots (they're big and heaps of them over her head, face, and trunk).

my faithless prayer worked? Must be. i was at a lost on what and how to pray. i wanted to ask God to make the sores stop multiplying initially, and then negotiated to a 'make it less itchy'. I finally asked God to help her deal with the chicken pox, to give her the grace and courage and patience in 'her trial'.

I pray that as she live her life she'd display the same grace and courage she showed me that afternoon.
